Er zijn 37 Vermeer schilderijen bekend, maar zes werken hiervan zijn verdwenen; we weten dat ze bestaan of bestonden maar niet hoe ze eruit zagen. Maar nu kunnen we er wel een beeld bij krijgen.

Het straatje schildert hij rond 1660. Tijdens Vermeers leven is het werk eigendom van de Delftse verzamelaar Pieter van Ruijven. Door vererving belandt het schilderij uiteindelijk bij diens schoonzoon Jacob Dissius, die in 1695 overlijdt. Met de veiling van diens collectie op 16 mei 1696 in Amsterdam verdwijnt Het straatje definitief uit Delft.

The Museum Prinsenhof Delft offers a unique opportunity to explore the history of the Netherlands, Delft and delftware.. There is no Vermeer in the "Vermeer's Delft" exhibit. The artefacts of Prince William are great, though maybe not worth the price of admission. The staff was SUPER and the audio guide was a bit tedious but very complete.
